Sins, Morn Over Your

FDOUB – April 9, 2009

 

James 4:9           Be afflicted and mourn and weep: let your laughter be turned to mourning, joy to heaviness

We should really mourn, be sorrowful for our own sins and the sins of the world.

1 Cor 5:2           You are puffed up over this sin, you have not rather mourned

Matt 26:75         Peter wept bitterly after denying Jesus three times

 

2 Sam 24:10, 17David’s heart condemned him after numbering the people.  Said I have sinned greatly

1 Chr 21:16-17 David and elders, clothed in sackcloth, fell on their faces.  David said he’d sinned

1 Kings 21:25-29  Ahab evil, but when heard indictment, sackcloth and fasted, mourned. Punishment delayed

Job 40:1-5         Job said he was vile for his lack of understanding about how great God is

(1 John 1:8-10    We are to confess our sins, if we say we have no sin we are liars)

Psa 32:1-5         Kept silent and suffered. Acknowledged iniquity of my sin.

Psa 38:18           For I will declare my iniquity; I will be in anguish over my sin

Psa 51:1-4         David asked to be washed clean, admitted he had done evil

Psa 73:21-22     My heart was grieved, vexed in my mind.  I was foolish and ignorant

Ecc 7:2-5           Better to go to the house of mourning than to feast.  Better to hear the rebuke of the wise

Isa 6:5                I am a man of unclean lips, I swell in the midst of a people of unclean lips

Isa 22:11-14      Judah rejected God and He called for a day or mourning, but instead they had a feast

Jer 36:23-24      When king heard words Jeremiah had written, he did not tear garments, were not afraid

Dan 9:8, 15        To us belongs shame of face because we have sinned against You

Joel 1:13-15       God calls for priest, Israel to lament, wail, sackcloth, fast, for the Day of the Lord is coming

Jonah 3:6-9        King of Nineveh laid aside robe,  sackcloth and ashes.  Proclaimed a fast

 

Morn for sins of world, not just our own

Ezra 9:1-7          Ezra is mortified over the interracial marriages of Jews

Neh 9:1-4          Israel assembled with fasting in sackcloth, dust on their heads.  Separated from foreigners

Psa 106:6           We have sinned with our fathers.  We have done wickedly

Psa 119:136       Rivers of water run down from my eyes, because men do not keep Your law

2 Cor 12:21       Paul said he would be grieved if Corinthians did not give up their sinful ways

 

Israel will mourn sins at Day of the Lord, beginning of Millennium

Eze 7:16             Those who survive will escape to mountains, all of them mourning for their iniquity

Jer 3:21, 25        Israel weeps and offers supplications for they have perverted their way, forgotten God

Jer 14:7, 20        We acknowledge our wickedness, for we have sinned against you

Jer 31:9, 18-20  Israel will return from captivity with weeping and with supplications

 

 

Zech 12:10-14   God give Israel understanding and they will mourn because they realize they killed Jesus

Luke 18:13         Publican would not raise his eyes, but smote his breast, asking mercy because he a sinner

2 Cor 7:9-11      Godly sorrow produces repentance leading to salvation

Matt 5:4             Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted (Luke 6:21)

                          The only way to true happiness, everlasting happiness, is to mourn over our sin, ours and the sins of this world.
